Community Outreach and Newcomer Services
438,000 individuals are participating in YMCA
outreach programs, including stay in school, newcomer services and
literacy.
To improve the health of our world, we must improve the health
of our communities - one person at a time. That's what YMCA
community outreach and newcomer services are all about. Because
these programs reflect the needs of a community, what's offered
varies from one YMCA to another.
Children and youth may join tutoring and after school programs,
youth dances, gambling prevention, youth drop ins, stay-in school
and school settlement programs, youth exchanges, transitional
housing and leadership programs, plus many others.
Adults can take advantage of newcomer services, prenatal and
parenting classes, housing support, English as a Second Language,
public seminars, adult learning, computer access, short-term
housing and more.
