Employment, Education and Training
171,200 youth and young adults are receiving
training in YMCA employment programs.
Our goal is to help people reach their full potential. That's
why YMCAs offer a range of education and training programs to help
Canadians start up small businesses, improve their language skills,
find employment and bolster their academic achievements. YMCAs also
support people through job searches, career counselling, mentoring,
stay-in-school and workforce re-entry programs, along with other
forms of training.
In addition to these services, national programs
currently in place include:
- The Canadian Post-Secondary Access Partnership
Program helps Canadians who want to obtain a post-secondary
education. While services are open to all, activities are
specifically designed for those who are the first in their family
to consider post-secondary studies, belong to a First Nations,
Métis or Inuit community, or have recently arrived in Canada.
- The Federal Public Sector Youth Internship Program
helps unemployed or underemployed youth under 30 receive work
experience in a federal department or agency.
- YMCA
Summer Work Student Exchange offers young Canadians the
opportunity to live and work in their second official language and
to experience the diversity of Canadian communities, languages and
cultures.
- YMCA
Youth Exchanges Canada twins same-age groups of youth from
another province or territory, who play an active role in planning,
and they take turns staying at each other's homes for at least five
days.
- Youth Gambling Awareness
Program supports young people (ages 8-24) in Nova Scotia and Ontario in making informed decisions about
gambling through free information sessions.
- New internship program to be added soon
